In Memory

Jim Shannon

Jim Shannon

Thanks to Jean Eves, Class of 1962, we have found a classmate who went to school with us but who left for the Air Force at the end of his junior year and didn't graduate with our class.  However, I am certain that many of you will remember Jim.  Thank you to Bob Geiger for sending a yearbook photo of our classmate.  Here is what Jean Eves learned from Jim's sister:

Jim attended Bonnie Slope Elementary School and then enrolled at Sunset.  He dropped out at the end of his junior year and joined the USAF with his friend Rich Prohaska, class of '62.  They signed up on the "Buddy Flight" recruiting plan that summer, 1962.  After discharge from the service he went to work at Boeing in Seattle, Wa. and attended the University of Washington to obtain a degree in mathematics. He eventually moved to Los Gatos, Ca. & taught higher level math at one of the Cal. universities while also becoming involved in home remodeling. He had been diagnosed with a heart condition that required surgery last Aug., 2014.  His condition worsened & a bacterial infection formed around his heart which ended his life Jan. 15, 2015.   Information received from his sister indicates that he was cremated & will be buried in Willamette National Cemetery in the near future.

I will pass along to classmates information about this upcoming service as soon as I receive it.

Blessings to you, Jim.  I am sorry that we lost touch with you.

Sincerely, Terry Schumacher

Tessa Schibel directed us to a more current photo of Jim that was in his obituary in the Oregonian.  Thanks, Tessa!  And I am sorry to say that we missed learning about his memorial service in time to notify classmates.  It was held Feb. 23.  Feel free to go to the Oregonian Obituaries and add a remembrance in Jim's guest book using this link:   www.oregonlive.com/obits

Or add a few words here.
