I had Mr Polich for three years of Latin.  He had a great sense of humor and an ability to convey not only the words of Caesars letters to Rome but the historical context in a way that made even Latin come alive. He also inadvertently taught us a lot about the Croatian community in Portland. He was an enduring spirit so I am not surprised to learn that he lived to 90 years.  He will be missed. A real gift to those of us who had him as a teacher. Mark Dodson

I had Mr. Polich for three years of Latin.  He even convinced me to help lead the "Latin Club" one year as president.  He was a great teacher, able to make a very boring topic interesting and funny.  I remember his kindness, his patience, his encouragement and his humor.  He was one of my favorites at Sunset (we were fortunate to have so many great teachers in those early years of SHS).
