Stephen C. Babcock Sr.

Stephen, "Steve" Charles Babcock Sr. was born in Portland to Blair and Mary L. Babcock. Steve graduated from Sunset High School in 1963 and went on to attend the University of Oregon where he earned a BS in Political Science in 1967. Later in 1967 he joined the United States Air Force working as a Weapons Controller and Mobility Officer, earning the rank of Captain, and served until 1972. After leaving the military, he attended Portland State University for his post baccalaureate studies in Accounting and Finance. In 1979 he became a Certified Public Accountant and through the years worked as an Auditor, Controller, Treasurer, CFO, and finally an Independent Business Consultant. Steve loved his work and took great pleasure in the many relationships he built in his career. He loved going to the movies and playing Bridge with his wife and friends, sharing meals with his family, the outdoors, camping, hiking, fishing, landscaping at his home, golfing and riding his bicycle.
Steve died Thursday, July 12, 2018, surrounded by family. He was 72 when he lost his life in a bicycle accident, but his family takes comfort in knowing that he died doing something he loved. He is survived by his wife, Suzanne; son, Stephen Jr.; daughter, Mary; stepdaughter, Barbara, Barbara's husband, Peter; grandchildren, Austin and Nicole; and his brothers, Jack and Chris.
An interment will be held at 10 a.m. sharp, Aug. 7, 2018, in Willamette National Cemetery and a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Aug. 12, 2018, at the Tumwater Ballroom in Oregon City. In lieu of flowers and to honor his memory, the family suggests that contributions be made to Portland State University Foundation to establish The Stephen Babcock Memorial Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 243, Portland, OR 97207-0243.
